Good afternoon, Eagle families!

I keep hoping for a hint of fall in the air to bring in the season, but we will have to make do with an abundance of pumpkin spice. It has been a busy quarter so far! I wanted to take a few moments to check in and update you with the current happenings here at PLDMS.

Quarter One gave us reason to celebrate. Our PBIS day was hit, attended by students with perfect discipline cards. We have also started our Friday SOAR Store, where students can use SOAR badges they earn to buy treats and prizes. Our honor roll celebration was a huge success; with over 400 students making A and AB honor roll, we had a lot of cheering to do!

Our Fine Arts continue to excel. We are proud to announce that we had qualifiers for All State Chorus and All State band, and our Thespians competed just last week, demonstrating their dramatic prowess. Our arts department united to create a spooky night of fun at the Haunted Walk and celebrated our Veterans during the stellar Veterans Day celebration on Friday, November 10th. We are looking forward to our upcoming performances that will be open to parents and friends.

Student Government elections took place over the last few weeks, and the winners were announced today. It was a schoolwide production with posters, speeches, a few students working for teacher endorsements, and LOTS of school spirit. We will be working with the SGA for ideas for our Winter Dance, Winter Spirit week and school celebrations.

Learning is on full throttle with our next round of state progress monitoring coming up the first week of December. We will be using the student data to build out extension opportunities for our students who are thriving, and interventions for those needing additional support. Remember that Thanksgiving break is next week, but your scholar can keep up his or her academics by reading for fun and doing math practice in ALEX. Dress code and tardies will be the focus of our behavior work next week after Thanksgiving, so remind your scholar to be on time and dressed for success!

Our quarter two SAC/PTO meeting is coming up this Thursday and we would love to see you and hear your input. We will be discussing the proximity plan for middle schools, our dance and possible pep rally for winter, and other schoolwide concerns. Join us Thursday, November 16 at 5:30 pm.

Thank you again for allowing us to partner with you in helping our eagles SOAR this year!

All best,

Dr. Karen Prentice

There’s something about a fire truck that just draws people near. Kids want to see it, sit in it and imagine what it would be like to work from it. Adults too. So, when the Bonita Springs Fire Department drove one of their trucks onto the Ida Baker High School campus to donate it to the school, the students in the Firefighting Academy were there to greet it.
