Dear Parents, Teachers, and Students,

Welcome to those of you who are new to the school, and welcome back to everyone returning for the 2009-10 school year at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School.  As your new PTSA President, I am looking forward to a year where we all work together to make strides in improving communication and ultimately making this a great place for ALL of us to spend time and learn.

Please take the time to explore the many sources of information available to you in order to make the most of your experience here at our school.  Begin with the school's website:  http://DUN.leeschools.net .  On that website, you will find our link under the PARENT tab, and click on PTSA or VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES for more information.  If you use Facebook, you can also become a fan of Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School PTSA, and learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.  If you have questions for the PTSA, you can reach us via email at PLDMSPTSA@gmail.com .

Allow me to introduce the PTSA Board members for this school year:  Charlotte Briggs is our Vice President, and has had 4 children attend PLDMS, and her last one is in 8th grade this year.  Charlotte has had plenty of experience on PTAs and PTSAs in the past, including having been the PTA President at a local elementary school.  Stacy Lewis is our Treasurer, and has had several years of experience as a PTA Treasurer in Ohio, so we welcome her experience!  Stacy's daughter is in her second year here at PLDMS and is in the 7th grade.  Margaret Foor is our Secretary, and just had her eldest graduate from PLDMS last year, and has another 8th grader this year.  My name is Lisa Alexander, and I am your PTSA President.  I served as the Treasurer last year, and as the SAC Secretary last year as well.  I have had children in this school for the past 3 years, and this year I have a daughter in 7th grade here.  Each and every one of us have multiple children, in different schools, and we have occupations outside of our volunteer positions on the PTSA.

It is my goal to involve as many of you parents, teachers, and students in our activities as possible.  It will not only benefit you personally, but it will benefit the school as a whole, EVERY time you make the time to volunteer.  Whether it is time donated at the school, at home, or a donation of a baked good, money, or whatever else we may be in need of, please know that what you contribute is VERY valuable, and VERY MUCH appreciated.  If you are able to join us in our efforts to make PLDMS the best possible place to be a middle schooler, please DO!  You will not regret it.

We will have a table at the Open Houses this year, and I do hope that you will visit us, sign up to be a member (optional $5 donation...we're more interested in YOU), and sign up for the many volunteer opportunities we have available.  BE INVOLVED in your middle-schooler's experience.  They need you now more than ever!  I wish you all a positive experience here at PLDMS, and I hope that it is through your involvement with the PTSA!

Sincerely,
Lisa Alexander
