2009-10 RECOGNITIONS

artART

CONGRATULATIONS !

William Barbuto, grade 8, won first place in the district-wide Pride and Patriotism contest. The middle school theme this year was “Support our Troops” and William’s pencil value study drawing captured the judges’ attention. It is an astonishingly sensitive portrayal of a soldier looking into the distance, a tear trickling down his cheek. The drawing is a portrait of compassion and courage, and has great depth not only in its emotional content but also in the play of light and dark contrasts in the composition.

This drawing also won the Permanent Collection award last year, and a print of it is displayed in our school gallery. We are very proud of William and look forward to his future successes.
