Principal's Message

Welcome Back Eagles!

We are ready for another great year!  Schedules are available on Focus Parent Portal, teachers are setting up their rooms, and plans have begun for incredible academic and extracurricular experiences this year.  We will enter the 2019-20 school year as a very strong B school – still just 2 points away from being an A.  More importantly, many of our scores on last year’s FSA showed great gains and impressive  growth.  Getting ready for the year, now is the time make sure that 7th graders have their immunizations in, that school supplies and dress code are ready to go, and that you’ve started to get your sleep schedule back on track!  You should be reading this message in one of three places – in our first weekly Happenings email, on the school’s Facebook page, or on the school website.  All three are great places to find information.  For new parents to our community, know that we send out a weekly “Happenings” each Friday with information about athletics, special events and important reminders via email – to receive this email, be sure your email address is up to date with the front office, and that your SPAM filter isn’t pulling it out.  The website always has good information, and if you use Facebook, we recommend following and liking our page for announcements, information and great pictures.  We encourage feedback, so please email Mark Dupoise, our school’s Technology Guru, at with any suggestions.

Lastly, on the first day, your student will bring home what we fondly refer to as the “brown packet”.  It’s getting smaller each year as we go more digital, but it still contains forms and information you’ll need to know, and complete, to get started this year.  Please complete the “Emergency Contact Card”, “Directory Information Form“, “Student Emergency and Health Information Form”, “After School Activity Form” and “School/Parent Compact” as soon as possible and send them back to school with your student.  For the last 5 years we have been committed to providing each student with a spirit shirt – we feel strongly that it builds school morale and student connectedness.  This year, we are asking for a $5 donation for the shirt.  Know that any donation sent in will be directed to the “Spirit Shirt” fund to help make sure that ALL of our students get to show their school spirit.  For five years we’ve SOARed together – this year we will soar even higher!

With Spirit, Optimism, Achievement and Deep Respect,

Nathan Shaker EdD
